A Cloud Never Dies

 



Thay is one of those people who I thought would never die. I am grateful to have known and tried to practice his teachings for so many years. He gave this world so much . . . a humble Vietnamese monk. 


I have much to learn from him, perhaps even through his death and how I can continue his teachings and work.

flattening the curve

20200315 to 20220115 is 671 days or 95 weeks and 6 days , one day shy of 96 weeks. This is the duration I have been social distancing in the interest of flattening the curve and helping to shield those in my life and larger community from a novel virus likely to cause complications and hospitalization and possibly death. Utilizing control measures such as social distancing, self-isolation, wearing masks, avoiding crowds and possibly exposed or infected people (indoors and outdoors), washing hands when possibly exposed, limited travel, remote working, and the like. transient and fleeting

Transient and fleeting, mono no aware (物の哀れ, もののあはれ) a subject that I have been dancing around and attempting to elaborate and pinpoint for some time now.  It began with a daily haiku reflection practice that I slowed down to a halt. I guess you could say this reading and concept stopped the continued reflections. What is to be done now? What do we do as individuals and what do we do as a society? When Corona first hit the US, a theme began to emerge that spoke of the inequities highlighted by the pandemic and how we must not return to a normal where those still hold sway. Articles and memes that speak of the issues began popping up. As time inches forward we can't forget all the big systemic changes that were made overnight to bail out and shore up the most privileged of society. And we must not leave our most vulnerable behind as the virus continues its course across the globe. We are all interconnected.
